Ms. Supamas Isarapakdi, Minister attached to the Prime Minister's Office and supervisor of the Office of the Consumer Protection Board (OCPB). She revealed that she has directed the OCPB to coordinate with government agencies and business networks. To move forward with 9 measures to assist flood victims. These range from securing tow trucks, offering free vehicle repair estimates, reducing parts and labor costs, coordinating debt relief, to repairing homes and electrical appliances, while ensuring the public is not charged unfair fees or subjected to unreasonable conditions.
"Vehicles damaged by floods require towing and repair costs, while loan repayments continue. Damaged homes also incur repair expenses. Therefore, I have instructed the OCPB to promptly coordinate with government agencies, repair shops, automakers, and related businesses to help reduce these expenses. The public must receive assistance and must not be exploited during their hardship," Ms. Supamas said.
For those whose vehicles were damaged by floods, the OCPB has set guidelines for assistance as follows:
Tow truck services. Coordinate with the police for assistance via the 191 hotline and partner with the Thailand Tow Truck Association to provide services at cost price without price exploitation.
Free vehicle repair estimates and parts discounts. Collaborate with the Insurance Garage Association to offer free repair estimates and discounts on genuine parts, along with several automakers providing discounts on parts, labor, and free vehicle inspections.
Insurance claims. Coordinate with the Office of Insurance Commission (hotline 1186) to ensure compensation claims are handled fairly according to actual damages and policy terms.
Replacement rental vehicles. The Thai Car Rental Association has waived deductibles for flood-related damages and provides replacement vehicles for consumers under lease contracts, with remaining damages covered per warranty conditions.
Beyond vehicle care, the OCPB focuses on alleviating financial and housing burdens.
Credit measures. Discussions with the Bank of Thailand are underway to implement principal payment suspensions, interest reductions, installment reductions, and extended repayment periods. Consumers can contact their financial institutions for assistance.
Home and electrical appliance restoration. Coordinate with service providers to offer free home and electrical system inspections, service discounts, extended warranties, and waive inspection fees.
Fair treatment for tenants. Landlords are urged not to exploit tenants with unfair rent hikes or improper withholding of deposits, with cooperation from the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration to handle local complaints.
