Thai Airways' board has scheduled a special meeting on 2 Oct to discuss measures addressing baggage backlog and flight delays at Suvarnabhumi Airport, while closely monitoring rumors about the possible removal of CEO Chai Iamsiri after criticism of his failed management.
A reporter at the Ministry of Transport revealed that tomorrow (2 Oct) a special Thai Airways board meeting will be held to review passenger service conditions at Suvarnabhumi Airport. Thai Airways has faced labor shortages, severely impacting ground services, baggage handling, and causing significant flight delays. The board will monitor the situation and discuss preventive measures to avoid similar incidents.
. Mr. Chai Iamsiri, Chief Executive Officer of Thai Airways Public Company Limited, stated that the special board meeting tomorrow (2 Oct) will report on efforts to resolve baggage and flight delay issues. Currently, Thai Airways is working to expedite delivery of delayed passenger baggage and gradually resume flight routes. It is expected that within seven days, flight operations will return to normal, averaging 115 departures per day from Suvarnabhumi Airport.
A reporter noted that the special board meeting tomorrow comes amid criticism of Thai Airways' management failures. Previously, the Ministry of Transport and government officials commented on the management's inability to promptly resolve issues, particularly criticizing CEO Chai Iamsiri for failing to coordinate with external agencies to expedite solutions for affected passengers.
Therefore, this special board meeting will be closely watched for rumors that CEO Chai Iamsiri might be removed from his position. If dismissed, it would be a termination before his contract ends on 31 Jan 2027. Meanwhile, the recruitment process for a new CEO closed on 27 Sept and is currently reviewing applicants' documents.
