Don Mueang Airport has revised its rules, discontinuing the use of handheld metal scanners and replacing them with "manual screening" to enhance security in accordance with CAAT regulations, effective from 1 Nov 2026.
On 27 Oct 2026, the official Facebook page of Don Mueang International Airport (DMK) posted that starting 1 November 2026, a new passenger screening method will be implemented to enhance security effectiveness.
This change involves discontinuing the use of handheld metal detectors and switching to "manual screening" during the final screening stage.
Under the new process, passengers will still pass through the walk-through metal detector or body scanner as usual. However, if an alarm sounds or officers detect irregularities, the handheld metal scanner will be replaced by a detailed manual body search.
This change does not lower standards but complies with the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) Regulation No. 113, which calls for more thorough passenger screening. This aligns with international airport security practices in many countries that use manual searches to rigorously prevent smuggling of dangerous items onto planes.
