" Supachai" Supachai follows the Prime Minister's lead, scheduling a meeting with the Ministries of Commerce, Industry, Natural Resources, and Customs on 30 Oct to urgently stop illegal waste imports after toxic waste was found in Prachinburi, considering proposals to ban scrap metal and rubber imports.
Mrs. Supachai Suthumpun, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce, revealed that Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has assigned her, as Deputy Prime Minister overseeing the Ministries of Industry and Commerce, to urgently resolve waste import issues and pollution from waste destruction processes to protect the environment and public health, following toxic waste problems in Prachinburi province.
To advance corrective measures, a major meeting is scheduled on 30 Oct with relevant agencies including the Ministry of Commerce via the Department of Foreign Trade, the Minister of Natural Resources and Environment and Pollution Control Department, the Minister of Industry and Department of Industrial Works, and Customs Department. The goal is to establish concrete solutions to stop illegal waste imports and oversee waste disposal plants to meet safety standards, targeting the pollution cycle from origin through sustainable final destruction.
"To solve this issue, all involved agencies must strictly enforce their own laws. Regarding the Department of Foreign Trade's proposal to have the Pollution Control Department ban scrap metal and rubber imports, the meeting will discuss feasibility to find suitable solutions that do not affect users and importers," she said.
