The Ministry of Transport is fully preparing the transport system to support the 2026 World Horticultural Expo in Udon Thani by arranging 150 bus trips per day connecting 25 locations, establishing a temporary train station, and ordering strict controls on fares and rental cars to prevent price gouging.
Mr. Siripong Angkasukolkit, Deputy Minister of Transport, revealed that during an offsite Cabinet meeting in Udon Thani Province, the Prime Minister and Minister of Transport assigned each minister to monitor preparations for the World Horticultural Expo, including development plans and readiness. The Ministry of Transport divided responsibilities to oversee relevant agencies, ensuring smooth travel for people nationwide attending the event.
The Department of Land Transport (DLT) has prepared public transport under the One Transport policy, focusing on integrating all modes of travel. This includes those arriving by bus at the bus terminals and by plane, with shuttle buses arranged from the airport to the event site to facilitate visitor access.
“Currently, 25 bus stops have been designated throughout Udon Thani. Buses will run continuously throughout the day, serving 150 trips daily—75 outbound and 75 return—covering categories 1 and 4 buses. Routes connect the first and second bus terminals and the airport to accommodate travelers from various points. Details of stops and routes have been publicized on the Udon Thani provincial page,” Mr. Siripong said.
Additionally, a temporary train station has been set up at the entrance to the event site to accommodate train passengers. Four daily trains will serve this station from Nong Khai and Nakhon Ratchasima provinces, including express and rapid diesel railcars, enabling direct and convenient travel to the event from these areas.
For future service expansions, once schedules and routes are finalized, the Transport Company Limited (Baw Kaw Saw) will consider providing additional tour buses from Bangkok to the Expo site and increasing services from nearby provinces in the region lacking rail or air connections, especially lower Northeastern provinces whose residents wish to travel to Udon Thani. Weekend services on Saturdays and Sundays may be added to offer more travel options and convenience for visitors.
Mr. Siripong added that the Ministry of Transport has instructed relevant agencies to supervise ride-hailing app operators and rental car providers in the area to charge fair rates without exploiting the public. The Department of Land Transport will oversee and regulate pricing mechanisms to prevent fares or service charges exceeding legal limits, ensuring orderly and equitable travel during the event.
