"Phiphat" inspected transportation readiness for the 2026 World Horticultural Expo in Udon Thani, highlighting the One Transport concept that connects trains, buses, and the airport, and ordered urgent improvements to walkways and pedestrian crossings, emphasizing maximum safety.
2 Nov 2026 11:00 GMT+7 Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport, visited Udon Thani Province to monitor transportation system readiness to accommodate residents and tourists attending the 2026 World Horticultural Expo in Udon Thani from 1 Nov 2026 to 14 Mar 2027 at Nong Daet Wetland, Kut Sa Subdistrict, Mueang Udon Thani District, accompanied by Ministry of Transport executives and relevant agencies.
Mr. Phiphat said the Ministry of Transport has integrated public transport systems across rail, road, and air under the One Transport approach to ensure convenient, safe, and seamless travel to the event area, with the following services ready:
On rail, the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) opened a temporary stop named “World Horticultural Expo Udon Thani” from 31 Oct 2026. It serves four trains directly picking up and dropping off passengers: inbound express train no. 75 Bangkok-Aphiwat - Nong Khai and local train no. 415 Nakhon Ratchasima - Nong Khai; outbound express train no. 76 Nong Khai - Bangkok Aphiwat and local train no. 418 Nong Khai - Nakhon Ratchasima. Air-conditioned carriages have been added to trains 415 and 418, one car each. Passengers on other trains can disembark at Udon Thani Station and take the Blue Line bus to the event area. Safety at platforms and railway-road crossings is emphasized, and passenger volume is monitored to increase services as needed.
For public buses, the Department of Land Transport (DLT) operates shuttle buses on three routes daily from 07:00 to 20:00:
Additionally, 22 parking areas are prepared to accommodate 10,578 cars, plus 13,283 point-to-point parking spaces, totaling over 23,800 vehicles to reduce congestion near the event site.
Udon Thani International Airport is ready to handle about 290 weekly flights in the winter schedule from five airlines connecting to Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket, Hat Yai, and some days to U-Tapao, with shuttle bus service linking the airport to the event site.
Mr. Phiphat added that during his site visit and public feedback sessions, issues were identified such as some parking areas being far from the event, uneven walkways, and concerns about crossing multi-lane roads safely. He assigned relevant agencies, together with the province and event organizers, to promptly inspect and improve problematic spots, including pedestrian routes from parking, deploying staff to assist at crossings, and managing traffic—especially to care for elderly, children, and those with mobility limitations.
He also expressed concern for daytime visitors facing hot and sunny weather, advising them to bring sun protection and stay hydrated. He coordinated with event organizers to consider shaded rest areas, especially near bus stops and along walking routes from parking lots.
He instructed all agencies to continuously monitor services throughout the event period, including train punctuality, bus capacity, parking management, airport convenience, and safety on access routes, while regularly providing travel information to ensure residents and tourists can attend the 2026 World Horticultural Expo in Udon Thani conveniently and safely.
