The Second Army Region clarified the explosion incident in the "Huai Tamaria" area along a newly constructed tactical route, discovering a single PMN-2 landmine. It is believed to be an old device laid by Cambodia during a period when Thai forces were advancing. They confirmed that no injuries occurred.
On 3 December 2025, the Facebook pageof the Second Army Regionissued a public statement explaining that on 2 December 2025 at 14:20 GMT+7, Unit 1622, conducting operations in the Huai Tamaria area at the newly constructed tactical route near the turning point in front of the base, detected an explosion. Upon investigation, it was found to be a single PMN-2 anti-personnel landmine that had detonated in that area.
After examining the site and gathering information from personnel in the area, it is assumed that the landmine was part of an existing minefield previously laid by Cambodian forces to delay or prevent the Thai advance when control of the area was not yet fully established, before Thai forces eventually took control.
According to the initial assessment, after Thai forces took control and opened the new tactical route for vehicles, the landmine was likely pushed aside by construction machinery and buried under soil and materials used for roadwork. When sufficient pressure from vehicles passed over it, the PMN-2 mine’s triggering mechanism activated, causing the explosion. No movements of Cambodian military forces were observed around the area at the time of the incident when Thai forces controlled the area.
Following the incident, the local unit conducted evidence collection and secured the PMN-2 landmine remains, documented details of the explosion site, and assessed the potential spread of mines nearby. They prepared to hand over evidence to the Explosive Ordnance Disposal and forensic units for detailed investigation and database creation on landmines. Additionally, they increased surveillance and search operations along the road and surrounding suspicious areas to ensure the safety of personnel and civilians, and instructed all responsible units to mark hazardous areas prone to landmine danger.
In summary, this explosion corresponds to a landmine originally laid in the Cambodian minefield area that was displaced or covered during road construction, receiving enough pressure to detonate. It is thus likely a mine planted by Cambodia during the period of Thai territorial advance, which ultimately led to Thai control of the operational area.
