Flooding in Ayutthaya Remains Severe, Affecting 13 Districts Normalcy Expected After New Year

Flooding in Ayutthaya remains severe, with 13 districts still affected, impacting 71,670 households. Residents along the Noi River continue to experience high floodwaters. This year’s flooding has lasted a long time, with normal conditions expected to return after the New Year.

On 5 December 2025 GMT+7, reporters reported that the flood situation in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province remains serious. Despite the Chao Phraya Dam in Chai Nat Province reducing water discharge, water levels in the Chao Phraya River, Noi River, and various canals remain high. Although water levels have started to recede, many areas are still flooded, heavily impacting residents living along the riverbanks.

Flooding has now affected 13 districts, 160 subdistricts, and 1,017 villages in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province. A total of 71,670 households are suffering hardships. There have been 20 fatalities. Floodwaters have inundated 38 temples, 33 schools, 2 mosques, 58 village roads, and 8 government offices.

Of the 16 districts in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province, 13 remain affected by flooding: Sena, Phak Hai, Bang Ban, Bang Sai, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, Bang Pa-in, Bang Pahan, Bang Sai, Ban Phraek, Lat Bua Luang, Maha Rat, Nakhon Luang, and Wang Noi districts.

Reporters visited Ban Hua Wiang community, Village No. 2, Hua Wiang Subdistrict, Sena District, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province. This riverside community along the Noi River has been flooded for over four months. Hua Wiang Temple, local schools, and many homes remain flooded in several spots, especially houses built close to the river, where water levels remain 1 to 2 meters high.

Although the situation is improving with water levels beginning to drop, residents have started returning to their homes after some houses were flooded up to the second floor. Water levels in the community are receding, roads are drying, and cleaning efforts to wash away mud are underway. Locals agree that this year’s flooding has lasted very long, and they hope for a swift recession. It is expected that conditions will return to normal only after the New Year.
