OBEC Launches Major Caravan to Aid Flood Relief in Southern Schools, Supporting Over 800 Institutions

OBEC mobilized a large caravan to the south to deliver urgent assistance after over 800 schools were affected by flooding. Dr. Saksin Rojaranrom supported additional trucks to strengthen transport capacity, while the Minister of Education emphasized standing firmly with teachers and students until the situation improves.

On 5 Dec 2025, reports stated that on 4 Dec at the Teacher's Day Garden, the Office of the Basic Education Commission (OBEC), Ministry of Education, led by Professor Narumon Pinyosinwat, Minister of Education, presided over the opening of the “2025 Southern Flood Relief Caravan” to provide urgent assistance to schools, students, teachers, and staff affected by flooding in multiple southern provinces.

The event was attended by Picheth Phophakdi, Secretary-General of OBEC, the Deputy Secretary-General of OBEC, OBEC executives, directors of education service areas, and representatives from related agencies.

A key supporter for this mission was Dr. Saksin Rojaranrom, Chairman of the Academic Quality Development Institute (AQDI), who announced support for trucks in the caravan to transport essential goods, survival kits, school rehabilitation materials, and other necessities to flood-affected areas in 10 southern provinces, enhancing transport capacity and speeding aid delivery to many impacted schools.

According to the situation report dated 2 Dec 2025, this flood affected 813 schools out of 7,012 in the southern region, representing over 11.59% of schools there. A total of 90,453 students were impacted, with 2 fatalities, while 8,206 teachers and education personnel were also affected.

Additionally, 142 school-based shelters were opened, accommodating more than 12,433 flood victims across five provinces: Pattani, Satun, Songkhla, Phatthalung, and Narathiwat.

The Secretary-General of OBEC reported that OBEC established disaster coordination centers centrally and locally and allocated over 3.15 million baht for short-term relief to assist students and teachers, including on-site distribution of essential living supplies during the initial phase of school rehabilitation.

Professor Narumon Pinyosinwat stated that this caravan reflects the concern of the Ministry of Education and OBEC for southern schools, emphasizing ongoing support and restoration efforts including welfare, safety, and mental health care for students and teachers to enable schools to reopen as soon as possible.

Following the opening ceremony, the OBEC caravan, supported by trucks provided by Dr. Saksin Rojaranrom, Chairman of AQDI, immediately departed to deliver initial assistance in Songkhla, Pattani, Yala, and Narathiwat provinces.

This event represents a proactive, integrated relief effort by OBEC and all partners, standing firmly with southern schools until the flooding crisis is fully resolved.
