Recent Thai-Cambodian border incidents in Buriram have prompted urgent evacuation of vulnerable groups to shelters for their safety, while security units continue to closely monitor the fighting along the border.
At 18:00 on 7 Dec 2025 GMT+7, reporters confirmed that after the 2nd Army Region's Facebook page disclosed that Cambodian forces began firing in the Phu Pha Lek - Phlan Hin Pad Kon area, Thai forces had to respond, leading to ongoing clashes. Cambodia then deployed artillery weapons. By 14:50, the fighting ceased. However, local units remain vigilant due to ongoing uncertainty and the risk of escalation. Residents in border districts of four provinces—Buriram, Surin, Sisaket, and Ubon Ratchathani—were urged to evacuate to designated shelters for safety.
In Buriram province, Governor Piya Pichinarm, along with Pol. Maj. Gen. Warayut Chan-yiam, Commander of Buriram Provincial Police, Phusit Lekudakorn, President of Buriram Provincial Administrative Organization, and related officials, led preparations at the Chang International Circuit evacuation center to accommodate all evacuees. The site is equipped with temporary shelter areas, essential facilities including food, drinking water, clean restrooms, emergency medical services, and 24-hour security. Administrative, military, police, and local government agencies are mobilizing to support the evacuation and transport of residents, prioritizing the elderly, young children, the ill, and other vulnerable groups.
Most recently, Ban Kruat District ordered evacuation of residents from six subdistricts—Sai Taku, Chanthabphet, Bueng Charoen, Nong Mai Ngam, Ban Kruat, and Prasat—totaling 35,000 people. About 13,000 are expected to arrive at the evacuation center.
Additionally, the Buriram governor instructed expansion of coordination points at the shelter to facilitate information, registration, and family tracking. He affirmed that the province has the capacity to safely accommodate all evacuees. Security agencies continue to closely monitor the border fighting and are prepared to adjust protective measures for the population as necessary.
