The Lahansai District Chief ordered a 100% evacuation of villagers after border tensions escalated to a critical level, with loud artillery fire echoing early in the morning.
On 10 Dec 2025 GMT+7, reporters reported that the border situation in Ban Kruat District, Buriram Province, became highly tense following heavy clashes in the early morning. Artillery fire thundered throughout the area, loud enough to be heard by residents in Buriram city as well.
Previously, Lahansai District ordered the evacuation of residents in all 13 villages of Nong Waeng Subdistrict and one village in Tacho Subdistrict. However, this morning, a full 100% evacuation was ordered. Rescue units from Siam Ruamjai Buriram and teams from Chiang Rai, Phayao, and Mae Sai districts brought over 10 ambulances to assist in moving bedridden patients.
Thepphanom Somsamoe, Lahansai District Chief, said Lahansai district is located outside the immediate evacuation radius, with only Nong Waeng and one village in Tacho Subdistrict previously evacuated.
But this morning, continuous artillery fire prompted him to report to superiors, who then ordered a full 100% evacuation. He expressed gratitude to the Siam Ruamjai Pu In rescue units from Chiang Rai and Phayao provinces, who traveled over 1,000 km across mountains to aid affected residents.
Meanwhile, Sarawut Katip, head of the Disaster Response and Rescue Team Siam Phayao (Headquarters) in Chiang Kham district, explained their assistance to Buriram province was motivated by last year's severe floods in Chiang Rai and Phayao. Residents of Buriram, especially from Nang Rong District and the Thai-Cambodian border area, donated money and supplies through the Siam Ruamjai Pu In rescue unit in Buriram. In return, the foundations and rescue teams from Chiang Rai, Mae Sai, and Phayao organized over 10 vehicles to help evacuate residents facing the current wartime crisis.
