The Office of Archaeology Region 10 confirmed that Ta Kwai Sanctuary can be repaired after being affected by the Thai-Cambodian border situation, but restoration must wait until the situation stabilizes.
On 11 Dec 2025 GMT+7, Mr. Tosaporn Srisaman, Director of the Office of Archaeology Region 10 in Nakhon Ratchasima, responsible for overseeing archaeological sites and artifacts in the lower northeastern provinces including Surin, Buriram, Nakhon Ratchasima, and Chaiyaphum, spoke about the case where Ta Kwai Sanctuary was used by Cambodian soldiers as a bunker to fight against Thai troops and sustained damage from attacks.
Mr. Tosaporn stated that, from current images, the upper part of Ta Kwai Sanctuary has collapsed due to the intense fighting and continuous gunfire. The Fine Arts Department has established a committee to inspect archaeological sites along the Thai-Cambodian border, especially those affected by the conflict between the two countries. However, since the border situation remains unstable, inspections cannot yet be conducted. Once the situation calms down, the committee will carry out a detailed inspection to assess restoration needs. Based on reports, it is expected that Ta Muean Thom and Kna Sanctuaries may also have been impacted by this confrontation.
Mr. Tosaporn further revealed that Ta Kwai Sanctuary can be restored to its original condition because many other archaeological sites under their care have suffered even greater damage. The restoration process follows the usual steps, including excavation, creating designs and plans for restoration, and then proceeding with repair work. He affirmed that the restoration of Ta Kwai Sanctuary is feasible but must await a peaceful situation first.
