This morning's Thailand-Cambodia border fighting saw Thai forces continuously shell Hill 677, while Cambodia fired BM21 rockets in response. Locals fear that the parliamentary dissolution might lower soldiers' morale, though it could also enable more decisive military command.
On 12 Dec 2025 GMT+7 at 08:30, reporters covering Hill 677 in Ubon Ratchathani, Thai sovereign territory, noted that some Cambodian soldiers still hold a stronghold there. Yesterday, the air force carried out bombing runs to pave the way for assault and special forces to attack and push back Cambodian troops, visible from afar by smoke plumes. Cambodia responded intermittently with BM21 rocket fire.
However, at 08:12 this morning, Cambodia launched two salvos of BM21 rockets—totaling 80 rounds—toward Chong An Ma. No injuries have been reported so far.
Mr. Pongdej, 53, a local resident of Nam Yuen district, said rumors circulated last night that Hun Sen ordered Cambodian troops to cease fire at 10 p.m., which is untrue because gunfire continues along the border. The intervals between shots may be longer than before, but the situation is unlikely to end soon.
Regarding the parliamentary dissolution last night, he believes that amid war, such political moves might hurt soldiers' morale. However, he thinks that without a prime minister, the military might command more freely. Personally, he hopes the clashes end first before addressing political direction.
. At the Nam Yuen district office, an announcement was made "to suspend entry into Nam Yuen district" due to ongoing clashes in the area. Authorities advise following official information only.
