Nong Praewa Fights to Repay Her Grandmother Through Tears, Questions Is It a Sin Not to Love Ones Mother? After Being Abandoned by Her

The story of a young child with a fighting spirit “Nong Praewa” A 9-year-old girl from Khon Kaen Province. After her parents separated, her mother had new husbands repeatedly. Whenever she had children, she left them with their grandmother to raise and then left, never taking care of the children or sending money. Now, the grandmother must support four children from different fathers, despite her own poor health, including leg pain and high blood pressure.

The grandmother earns income by lifting fishing traps and making fermented fish dishes to sell, and by cleaning for hire, earning only about 1,000 baht a month to feed her four grandchildren. Some days she has only 40 baht, which she divides to send the children to school while she often goes hungry herself, including Nong Praewa. However, out of gratitude, Nong Praewa helps earn extra income in every way a child can—massaging, helping with fishing traps, washing dishes, plucking gray hairs, performing traditional Mor Lam dance, washing hair, searching for clams to sell, and selling fermented fish dishes door to door.

Not long ago, the mother returned home with a new husband but showed no care for her own children. What hurt the grandmother most was seeing the mother spend money on good meals for her new husband but buy only one sausage stick to share among the four children. Shortly after, the mother and her new husband were arrested by the police for breaking into top-up booths at various places and using the money to support the new husband. The mother's actions have become a lasting emotional wound for Nong Praewa, who wonders, "Is it a sin not to love one’s mother?" because her mother’s deeds cause sadness to her grandmother and siblings, who often see their grandmother crying.

Another sad fact about Nong Praewa is that she has never had a birthday cake since birth. She tries to save money to buy one for herself, but even money for food is scarce, so she has not been able to buy a birthday cake. The program surprised her with her first-ever birthday cake, bringing tears to the whole family. Today, Nong Praewa is determined to fight for her family’s livelihood because their rice cooker is broken. She is ready to face challenges for a better life and new career opportunities for her family.

“Small but strong, a fighting heart” We celebrate the goodness and strength of Nong Praewa, who came to the program with nothing but a small fighting heart, determined to fulfill her wishes and give her family a new life.
