Meteorological Department Warns of Unstable Weather with Rain Before Cold Spell Heavy Rain in Southern Thailand

The Meteorological Department warns of heavy rain in many areas of southern Thailand, while the upper regions of Thailand will have unstable weather with some thunderstorms. Subsequently, temperatures will decrease by 2-4 degrees Celsius.

On 13 Dec 2025, the Meteorological Department issued a bulletin regarding heavy to very heavy rain in southern Thailand and strong waves in the Gulf of Thailand, effective until 16 Dec 2025.

In its 18th bulletin, it stated that from 14-16 Dec 2025, the lower southern region will continue to experience heavy rain in many areas, including the provinces of Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Songkhla, Pattani, Yala, Narathiwat, Krabi, Trang, and Satun. This is due to the strengthening northeast monsoon covering the Gulf of Thailand and southern region.

Waves and winds in the Gulf of Thailand and Andaman Sea will intensify. The lower Gulf of Thailand will have waves 2-3 meters high, with areas experiencing thunderstorms seeing waves over 3 meters. The upper Gulf has waves around 2 meters high. The offshore Andaman Sea will have waves over 2 meters, with thunderstorm areas having waves over 2 meters.

The public is advised to be cautious of dangers from heavy to very heavy rain and accumulated rainfall, which may cause flash floods and mountain runoff, especially in foothill areas near waterways and lowlands. Mariners in the Gulf of Thailand and Andaman Sea should navigate cautiously and avoid sailing in thunderstorm areas. Mariners in the lower Gulf of Thailand are advised to refrain from going out to sea.

Meanwhile, upper Thailand will experience unstable weather with isolated thunderstorms on 13 Dec 2025 due to easterly winds bringing moisture over the area. Following this, temperatures will drop by 2-4 degrees Celsius, with cool to cold weather and strong winds. This is because a relatively strong high-pressure system or cold air mass from China is extending over Thailand. The public is advised to take care of their health due to the changing weather, and farmers should prepare to prevent and minimize damage to agricultural produce.

Therefore, the public is urged to follow announcements from the Meteorological Department and can access information on the department’s website.http://www.tmd.go.thor call 0-2399-4012-13 and 1182, available 24 hours a day.
