Border Villagers in Trat Rush to Shelters Amid Fears of Renewed Midnight Clashes

This evening, villagers near the Thai-Cambodian border in Trat Province hurried into shelters, fearing heavy clashes might recur around midnight after an unusual silence. Meanwhile, the Village Security Volunteers (Chor Ror Bor) have organized strict security patrols.

On 13 December 2025, following heavy clashes between Thai and Cambodian soldiers, our team visited the border area in Chamrak Subdistrict, Mueang District, Trat Province this evening. The overall atmosphere was tense. Although the situation was unusually quiet, villagers’ concerns remained unresolved. Local administrative officers and the Village Security Volunteers (Chor Ror Bor) conducted strict patrols, monitoring unfamiliar individuals entering the area to prevent unexpected incidents.

Most villagers in the area remain fearful, worried that severe clashes might occur again, especially involving heavy weapons from the Cambodian side. Many families decided to quickly seek shelter in bunkers, staying prepared at all times, even though no fighting sounds had been heard so far.

One villager said the silence today only increased anxiety because no one knows when violence might break out. Many have lived continuously in bunkers for several days and hope the situation will soon ease so they can return to normal life.

At the same time, villagers sent their support to the frontline soldiers, wishing for their safety and urging them to carry out their duties with determination amid the still fragile border situation.
