Sonthiya Sawasdee went to the U.S. Embassy to submit a protest letter regarding Donald Trump’s statement that Thai soldiers stepping on landmines was merely an accident.
At 11:00 a.m. on 14 December 2025 GMT+7, Mr. Sonthiya Sawasdee traveled to the front of the United States Embassy on Witthayu Road, Lumphini Subdistrict, Pathum Wan District, Bangkok.
He intended to submit a letter to Mr. Robert F. Godec, the U.S. Ambassador to Thailand.
Mr. Sonthiya stated that Donald Trump tweeted that Thai soldiers stepping on landmines seven times was an accident, which caused many injuries and seven soldiers to lose legs or become disabled. This false information harms the Thai soldiers and the honor of Thailand.
He demanded Donald Trump apologize for: 1. alleging that the explosions causing Thai soldiers’ disabilities were accidents; 2. stopping interference in Thai-Cambodian issues; and 3. ceasing to use trade measures to threaten Thailand. He communicated this through the U.S. Ambassador to Thailand by tying the letter to the fence of the U.S. Embassy in Thailand because the embassy has repeatedly refused to accept letters, except inviting individuals close to the U.S. inside, which is considered discourteous and an interference in Thailand’s internal affairs.
Police Colonel Yingyos Suwannano, Superintendent of Lumphini Police Station; Police Lieutenant Colonel Ekaphon Puttikul, Deputy Superintendent of the Crime Suppression Division; Police Lieutenant Sitthidet Somthong, Investigation Officer of Lumphini Police Station; security police; and related officials arrived to facilitate and ensure the event proceeded peacefully and orderly.
