Hundreds of Thais Illegally Enter Country via Natural Routes After Cambodia Refuses to Release Them

The Eastern Forces, through the Aranyaprathet Task Force, reported that 100 Thais returned to the country via natural routes over two days, following Cambodia’s detention of Thais in Poipet who were not allowed to cross the border.

Update on the Thai-Cambodian border situation: On 14 Dec 2025 GMT+7, the Eastern Forces, with soldiers from the Aranyaprathet Task Force and the 12th Ranger Battalion control unit, apprehended 100 Thais who had been working in Poipet city, Banteay Meanchey Province, Cambodia, and had illegally crossed back into Thailand over the past two days. This occurred after Cambodian authorities refused to allow Thais in Poipet to cross back at the permanent border checkpoint at Ban Klong Luek or Aranyaprathet checkpoint in Aranyaprathet District, Sa Kaeo Province, despite requests made by the Thai government through its embassy since 11 Dec.

The Eastern Forces reported that over the past two days, 100 Thais have returned via natural routes. The 2nd Infantry Division, King's Guard, through the Aranyaprathet Task Force, summarized the returnees crossing through natural routes in their responsibility area, Aranyaprathet District, Sa Kaeo Province.

The cumulative returnees on 11 Dec 2025 GMT+7 were 54 people, with 46 returning on 12 Dec, totaling 100. Officials conducted security measures along the border. All returnees were detained for legal procedures under the law concerning illegal immigration. They were recorded and interrogated, and arrest warrants were checked. Those with warrants will be prosecuted; those without will be released back to their hometowns.
