Sa Kaeo still shows no sign from Cambodia about releasing stranded Thai nationals in Poipet back into the country. Meanwhile, officials have detected activity near a tall building on the Cambodian side, suspected to be an observation or reconnaissance unit resembling a sniper team.
Regarding the progress of the Thai-Cambodian border situation on 15 Dec 2025, reporters noted that the atmosphere at the permanent border crossing at Ban Khlong Luek, or Aranyaprathet checkpoint, in Aranyaprathet district, Sa Kaeo province, remained calm after rumors circulated repeatedly that Cambodian authorities might release stranded Thai nationals to return to Thailand.
Most recently, reporters visited the area in front of the permanent border crossing at Ban Khlong Luek, or Aranyaprathet checkpoint, and found the situation completely quiet with no movement or response signals from Cambodia. Meanwhile, locals and relatives of the stranded individuals continued to wait with hope amid the uncertain situation.
Local security forces requested cooperation to prohibit journalists and unrelated individuals from entering the inner area in front of the checkpoint, citing concerns over potential dangers. They stated that the area remains a high-risk zone requiring strict vigilance.
Security sources added that officials detected suspicious activity near a tall building on the Cambodian side, believed to be an observation or reconnaissance post similar to a sniper team. This has led authorities to enhance security measures and strictly limit access to the area to prevent unforeseen incidents.
Currently, officials continue to closely monitor the situation and continuously assess safety in the area. There is still no clarity on when the release of stranded Thai nationals will progress.
