On 15 Dec 2025, the Facebook pageChinese Embassy Bangkok, the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Thailand, posted a statement saying, "The spokesperson of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs responded to reporters' questions regarding the Thailand–Cambodia border situation.
In recent days, although leaders of certain countries have contacted the leaders of Thailand and Cambodia to push for a swift ceasefire, clashes along the Thailand-Cambodia border have continued. During the daily press briefing of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 15 Dec 2025, reporters asked what China's stance was and what efforts China had made to promote a ceasefire."
The response was: As a neighboring country and friend to both Thailand and Cambodia, China has closely monitored the Thailand–Cambodia border situation and expresses deep condolences and concern over the deaths and injuries among civilians in both countries. Thailand and Cambodia are inseparable neighbors.
China has an ancient proverb that says, 'Living with neighbors in friendship and kindness is a precious treasure of the country itself.' The most urgent task now is to cease fire, stop hostilities, and protect civilians. China sincerely hopes both sides will prioritize maintaining peace and stability along the border area and the interests of their peoples, exercise profound restraint, and take all measures conducive to achieving a ceasefire to quickly ease tensions.
Since the Thailand–Cambodia border conflict began, China has maintained close communication with both parties through various channels and levels as desired by both sides, actively mediating and promoting negotiations to create opportunities and provide a forum for dialogue between Thailand and Cambodia. China supports direct negotiations and consultations between the two sides, endorses ASEAN’s mediation efforts, especially by Malaysia, and supports seeking solutions within the ASEAN framework accepted by both parties.
China is fully committed to mediation and promoting negotiations and will continue to do so in the future to play a constructive role according to its approach in pushing for a ceasefire and restoring peace.".
