Meteorological Department Warns of Heavy Rain in South, Cooler Weather with Strong Winds in Upper Thailand, Temperature Drops 1-2°C

The Meteorological Department issued Bulletin No. 30 warning of very heavy rain in the southern region, while upper Thailand is experiencing cooler weather with strong winds, with temperatures expected to drop by 1-2 degrees Celsius.

On 16 December 2025, the Meteorological Department announced Bulletin No. 30 regarding heavy to very heavy rain in the southern region and strong waves in the Gulf of Thailand, effective through 16 December 2025.

It stated that the lower southern region continues to experience heavy rain in some areas, including the provinces of Phatthalung, Songkhla, Pattani, Yala, Narathiwat, Trang, and Satun, due to a fairly strong northeast monsoon covering the Gulf of Thailand and the southern region.

Regarding the waves and winds in the lower Gulf of Thailand, they are fairly strong with wave heights of 2-3 meters, and in areas with thunderstorms, waves exceed 3 meters. The upper Gulf of Thailand has wave heights around 2 meters, while the Andaman Sea offshore and in thunderstorm areas has waves over 2 meters high.

Residents in the lower southern region are advised to be cautious of dangers from heavy and accumulated rainfall which may cause flash floods and mountain runoff, especially in hillside areas near waterways and lowlands. Mariners in the Gulf of Thailand and Andaman Sea should navigate carefully and avoid sailing in thunderstorm areas. Small boats in the lower Gulf of Thailand are advised to stay ashore.

For upper Thailand, cooler weather with strong winds is expected, with temperatures dropping by 1-2 degrees Celsius due to a high-pressure cold air mass spreading from China over Thailand. Residents are advised to take care of their health due to the cooler conditions.
