Oil Truck Driver Appeals Against Accusations of Betraying the Nation, Says His Job Is Only to Deliver to Laos Side, Unaware of Final Destination

Mukdahan – An oil truck driver appeals to social media users to stop labeling him a "traitor." He says his only job is to drive and deliver oil to the Lao PDR side, and he does not know if the oil is later sold or exported to Cambodia or elsewhere.

Updating the situation at the Thai-Cambodian border, around 11:00 on 16 Dec 2025 GMT+7, reporters surveyed the parking area at the Mukdahan border checkpoint and found about 20 oil trucks waiting in line to cross and deliver oil. Most are scheduled to cross to the Lao PDR side in the afternoon.

When interviewed, a group of drivers said they had arrived since 03:00 the previous night to park and await inspections of their routes and documents as required by Mukdahan Customs procedures. They said they do not deliver oil every day—about twice a month currently. One driver said he delivers about 20 kilometers outside the city. He expressed concern that social media has excessively criticized oil truck drivers, accusing them of betraying the nation, but he insists he does not know the oil's destination after delivery in Laos. They are merely hired drivers.

Meanwhile, Mr. Natthapon Kongkhaluang, Director of Customs Services at Mukdahan Customs checkpoint, said the checkpoint coordinates with Customs Department executives, immigration police chiefs, and the 2nd Army Region regarding export controls on oil. Currently, operations are normal with regular monitoring and tightened inspections on exports to Laos and other goods. Mukdahan Customs continues regular oil exports to neighboring countries. This year, about 20 million liters have been exported, with 80 percent diesel and 20 percent other types. Destination checks confirm shipments go only to the Lao PDR.
