Thai soldiers have reclaimed the Chong An Ma area, raised the Thai national flag on sovereign land, and completed clearing the “Ta Om Monument” site.
An update on the Thailand-Cambodia border situation: At 18:00 on 16 Dec 2025, the Royal Thai Army's Facebook page "Army Current" posted a video clip with the message, “Listen to the most stirring national anthem as Thai soldiers clear the Ta Om Monument area, which has now vanished (Information: not real-time, authorized by the 2nd Army Area Command). Independence will not be oppressed by anyone.”
Reporters note that the Ta Om Monument is a statue of a man on horseback holding a spear, built by Cambodia in the Chong An Ma area along the Ubon Ratchathani–Cambodia border to claim ownership and as a symbol of local heroes. However, it was constructed encroaching on Thai territory, violating the 2000 Memorandum of Understanding. Thailand has consistently objected, leading to clashes in the area and damage to the monument from Cambodian artillery fire. Subsequently, Thai soldiers retook the area and cleared the Ta Om Monument.
