Ministry of Public Health and FDA Raise Health Product Standards, Present R5 Guarantee Award in Health Region 5

The Ministry of Public Health and the FDA have partnered to elevate health product standards by presenting the R5 Guarantee award in Health Region 5, aiming to expand the market from local to global.

On 17 Dec 2025 GMT+7, at the Chandelier Room, Sheraton Hua Hin Resort & Spa (Hua Hin), Pharmacist Suphattra Boonserm, Secretary-General of the Food and Drug Administration, and Dr. Chaiwat Patanapisarnsak, Health Supervisor of Health Region 5, presided over the opening of the "Promoting Thai Health Products to the Global Market (R5 Guarantee to Global)" project and presented plaques of honor to health product entrepreneurs and establishments receiving the R5 Guarantee mark in Health Region 5 — a symbol of outstanding standards and unique identity for health products and establishments.

This region features a variety of health tourism destinations across eight provinces: Kanchanaburi, Nakhon Pathom, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Phetchaburi, Ratchaburi, Samut Songkhram, Samut Sakhon, and Suphanburi.

Pharmacist Suphattra Boonserm, Secretary-General of the FDA, highlighted the importance of the R5 Guarantee mark as part of a health economy project designed to communicate and implement the Ministry of Public Health’s health economy policies within Health Region 5. The R5 Guarantee brand aims to add value, enhance potential, and elevate health tourism destinations.

A total of 308 items from 222 recipients were awarded the mark, covering certified categories including health products, food, herbal products, cosmetics, and ten types of health establishments: medical facilities, health massage, beauty massage, spas, hotels, restaurants, dining establishments, restrooms, traditional Thai and herbal health tourism sites, and health product tourism destinations.

All recipients were selected based on five certification criteria: 1) voluntary application and location within provinces of Health Region 5; 2) compliance with Ministry of Public Health standards, including FDA approval and proper product labeling; 3) continuous quality maintenance over two years; 4) possessing unique provincial identity and stories; and 5) no negative social or environmental impacts. The FDA is committed to supporting R5 Guarantee products for global promotion.

The event featured a panel discussion titled "Elevating Thai Health Industry to the Global Stage (From Local to Global)," aiming to find concrete strategies for developing health products to meet international standards. Participants included representatives from the FDA, SME service networks, government policy promotion agencies, the Department of International Trade Promotion, the Tourism Authority of Thailand, Phetchaburi Provincial Office, and Sukanda Thai Snack Co., Ltd. They shared valuable knowledge, expressed confidence, and pledged cooperation to drive the Medical & Wellness Hub and Wellcation policies, boosting the health economy and promoting Wellcation tourism to expand opportunities for Thai products to grow and elevate the Thai health industry globally.

Consumers can verify health product information through the list of products awarded the R5 Guarantee.
