Natural Beauty Revealed: Thousands of Parakeets Descend to Feed on Sunflower Seeds in the Field

Tourists are delighted as they witness a flock of "parakeets" numbering several thousand descending to feed on sunflower seeds in a farm in Pak Chong District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province.

On 17 Dec 2025 GMT+7, reporters reported that at Maneesorn Farm, Khao Yai Sunflower Field, in Khlong Suea Village, Pak Chong District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province, a flock of thousands of parakeets from Khao Yai National Park flew down to peck at the ripe sunflower seeds in a 540-rai sunflower field cultivated by the farm to allow tourists to visit and enjoy the sunflower fields amid the cool winter weather.

Mr. Thewa Mahasan, owner of Maneesorn Farm, Khao Yai Sunflower Field, revealed that this large flock of parakeets belongs to the parrot species locally called "parakeet," which are regular visitors to the farm, as they often fly in to snatch sunflower seeds during this season every year.

The reason the parakeet flocks visit the farm more than usual is believed to be their habitual feeding on sunflower seeds here annually. Since the farm plants a large quantity of sunflowers, it acts like a grand buffet, enticing the parakeets to come feed, creating a beautiful natural scene that attracts tourists, especially Thai and foreign visitors who enjoy nature photography.

Normally, the birds swoop down to feed on sunflower seeds in the early morning between 06:00 and 08:00, and again in the afternoon from 15:00 to 17:00. Visitors or bird watchers should come during these times. The farm is open for free viewing from 07:00 to 18:00, allowing visitors to capture photos and enjoy the beauty of the parakeet flock alongside the sunflower fields.

However, visitors are advised not to make loud noises and to keep a respectful distance so as not to disturb or startle the birds, which could cause them to fly away.
