Workers Injured and Killed in Samut Prakan Construction Site Collapse Covered by Compensation Fund

Social Security officials have visited the site to assist workers injured in a construction site collapse in Samut Prakan Province, providing coverage through the compensation fund for both the injured and deceased individuals.

On 18 Dec, reporters reported that following the scaffolding collapse at a construction site in Phraek Sa Subdistrict, Mueang District, Samut Prakan Province, which injured four workers and caused one death on 7 Dec, Ms. Kanchana Phoolkaew, Secretary-General of the Social Security Office (SSO), ordered Ms. Preeyaphat Traimethilak, Social Security Officer of Samut Prakan, to lead a team to inspect the site and provide immediate assistance.

The four injured workers are: 1. Mr. SOTH SEM, 44, Cambodian, with a fractured left leg, treated at Samut Prakan Hospital; 2. Mr. THAN WIN AUNG, 34, Myanmar national, with minor rib injuries, discharged by doctors; 3. Mr. TIN HETE PHYO, 27, Myanmar national, with fractures to both collarbones and ribs piercing the lung, treated at Samut Prakan Hospital; and 4. Mr. MOE ARKAR, 20, Myanmar national, with muscle injuries, discharged by doctors. The deceased is Mr. MYINT CHO, Myanmar national, whose body was sent for autopsy at Ramathibodi Chakri Naruebodindra Hospital, with legal procedures ongoing.

The Secretary-General of the Social Security Office stated that workers injured on the job receive compensation from the fund, including medical expenses ranging from 65,000 to 1,000,000 baht; if treated in public hospitals, actual medical costs are covered until treatment concludes; income loss compensation at 70% of the monthly wage for up to one year; compensation for loss of organs or work capacity proportionate to the injury; and, in cases of disability, 70% of monthly wages for life. The Samut Prakan Social Security Office has coordinated with employers to promptly submit worker registration and accident notification forms (Form กท.16) to the Pathum Thani Social Security Office. Additionally, Ms. Preeyaphat led a team to visit the injured at Samut Prakan Hospital to offer encouragement and explain compensation rights to workers and employers, emphasizing that all properly registered workers, regardless of nationality, are fully entitled to legal benefits and the Social Security Office is committed to ongoing support.
