On 18 Dec 2025 GMT+7, reporters covered the situation in Songkhla Province following heavy rain since last night continuing throughout the day.
At 1:00 p.m., the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) issued a Cell Broadcast warning about heavy rain in Mueang Songkhla, Hat Yai, and Na Mom districts. It alerted residents to watch for flooding and landslides in areas near canals, rivers, lowlands, and foothills. People were advised to move belongings to higher ground, secure valuables and important documents, be cautious of electrical hazards, and care for vulnerable groups.
The warning also noted that water levels in Khlong Wat canal have begun to overflow, affecting riverside and low-lying areas in Hat Yai district. Residents were urged to closely monitor water levels, move belongings and vehicles to higher ground, secure valuables and documents, beware of electrical shocks, and protect vulnerable individuals.
Reporters interviewed Dr. Kitti Ruengroongkulrit, the Hat Yai Municipal Clerk, who disclosed that from last night through today, heavy rain in Hat Yai district caused some localized flooding, especially in low-lying areas. The municipality deployed staff to clean drainage canals where blocked pipes clogged with debris and sand caused water to overflow onto roads, aiming to expedite drainage.
Areas marked with a yellow flag are under precautionary watch. Residents concerned or living in low areas can evacuate to the shelter at Municipal School 4, Wat Khlong Rian, which provides food and accommodations for those worried about flooding.
Some outer areas experienced water flowing over roads, notably along Kanjanavanich Road near the Hat Yai Housing Community 2, where small vehicles must exercise caution. Schools within Hat Yai Municipality have announced early dismissal for students starting at 2 p.m.
