Navy Explains Incident of Cambodian Ambush on Local Military Leader as Clear Provocation and Threat

The Navy spokesperson revealed that Cambodia did carry out an ambush aiming to kill a local military unit leader near the Thailand-Cambodia border before the commencement of the "Trat Suppression Operation." This act clearly qualifies as provocation and harassment, violating the principles of peaceful coexistence.

On 20 Dec 2025 GMT+7, Rear Admiral Parach Rattanachaiyaphan, Navy spokesperson, stated that in response to circulated images and messages on social media claiming an ambush shooting of the Navy Commander, the Navy spokesperson's office completely denies this news and wishes to clarify the facts to ensure public understanding as follows.

There was no ambush shooting targeting the Navy Commander. The news and images being shared are false and deviate from the truth.

The factual incident involved gunfire from Cambodian snipers targeting the life of a local military unit leader near the Thailand-Cambodia border before the Navy began the "Trat Suppression Operation." This incident constitutes clear provocation and harassment, which violates the principles of peaceful coexistence.

The Navy confirms it is closely monitoring the border situation within legal frameworks, military necessity, and with primary consideration for public safety. The Navy requests cooperation from the public and media to verify information from official sources before sharing or disseminating it, to prevent panic and misunderstandings that could affect national security.
