Urgent: Marine Combat Engineer Steps on Landmine in Nong Ree Village, Right Leg Amputated, Rushed to Hospital

Urgent: Sergeant Major Therotpong Phamnara, a marine combat engineer, stepped on a landmine in Nong Ree Village, Trat Province while reinforcing security in the area. He was urgently transported to the hospital.

At 09:14 on 21 December 2025 GMT+7, a report from Trat Marine Task Force stated that a soldier was injured by a landmine in Samlang Village, Chamrak Subdistrict, Mueang District, Trat Province. The injured was identified as Sergeant Major Therotpong Phamnara from the Trat Marine Task Force under the Royal Thai Navy. The explosion caused him severe injuries, resulting in the loss of his right leg. Rescue personnel quickly intervened and he was airlifted by helicopter to Pra Pok Klao Hospital in Chanthaburi.

An inspection of the incident site revealed a new PMN-2 type anti-personnel landmine buried within Thai territory. Navy Captain Thammanoon stated that this act clearly violates the Ottawa Treaty, which prohibits the use of anti-personnel mines.

Following the incident, the Trat Marine Task Force ordered an immediate escalation of security measures at the front lines, enhancing sweep and surveillance operations to prevent further harm to personnel from potentially illicitly placed landmines in the vulnerable area.
