Chaos in Poipet: Cambodian Residents Flee After Hearing Repeated Explosions

Chaos erupted in Poipet as Cambodian residents began evacuating in panic after hearing intermittent explosions. The blasts are believed to be linked to border clashes, sparking widespread anxiety and fears that the situation could spread into residential areas, especially economic zones.

Regarding the Thai-Cambodian border situation on 21 Dec 2025 GMT+7, reporters described a noticeably tense atmosphere inside Poipet city on the Cambodian side. Many residents started packing their belongings and evacuating amid growing panic caused by repeated explosions heard near the border area.

Local sources reported that the explosions were continuous and consistent with military clashes near the Thai-Cambodian border. This led to heightened worry among Poipet residents, fearing the conflict might spread into residential neighborhoods, economic zones, community centers, and several tall buildings within the city.

Reports indicate that some residents hastily left the city for inland areas, while some families chose to shelter in secure buildings or gathered in groups closely monitoring news updates. The overall atmosphere was chaotic; some shops closed early, and traffic congestion began to appear on certain routes.

Meanwhile, security agencies from both countries continue to closely monitor and assess the situation. However, as of now, there have been no official reports confirming damage or the number of injured or deceased resulting from these events.

The Thai-Cambodian border situation remains critical and must be continuously watched amid public concern on both sides, with hopes that the conflict will de-escalate quickly and not affect innocent civilians.
