On 23 December 2025, the 1st Army Region expressed its deepest condolences to the family. Private Thanaphat Nantawong of the 3rd Infantry Battalion, 2nd Infantry Regiment, King's Guard, died in the line of duty protecting the nation's sovereignty at the Thai-Cambodian border, Ban Nong Jan, Khok Sung District, Sa Kaeo Province, on 23 Dec 2025.

The 1st Army Region honors his sacrifice in defending Thailand with his life and will ensure a dignified funeral and full support of the family’s rights and benefits.

Additional reports indicate that between approximately 14:45 and 15:30, officials heard gunfire and heavy weapons near the area, followed by an attack with unidentified weapons. Subsequently, support fire resembling machine gun bullets struck Checkpoint 40 and surrounding areas, causing alarm among the personnel on duty.

This incident resulted in three Thai soldiers from the same unit being injured. The event occurred in the Tiger Cave area, a strategically important point near the border.

The first injured is Private Apichat Naebniam, who suffered minor wounds to his left arm from shrapnel caused by an explosive and machine gun fire. Medical staff classified his condition as green (minor), he was communicative and was transferred to Khok Sung Hospital.

, Private Isawa Prawatklang sustained head injuries from shrapnel and blast pressure. His condition was classified as yellow (moderate), requiring close monitoring, and he was transferred to Watthana Nakhon Hospital for further treatment.

, Private Thanaphat Nantawong was under medical evaluation, classified as black (critical), and was admitted to Khok Sung Hospital. Official medical details were not disclosed. The latest reports confirm he has died.

Meanwhile, security agencies have reinforced control around the incident site and increased border security measures to prevent recurrence and protect nearby residents.

Relevant authorities are currently conducting a detailed investigation of the clash site to assess damages and identify the origin of the attack, closely monitoring the Ban Nong Jan border situation amid ongoing tension in Sa Kaeo Province border areas.
