Attention is focused on the Thai-Cambodian GBC meeting in Chanthaburi this evening, where Thailand plans to present three conditions requiring Cambodia to cease fire. The original venue is not ready, possibly leading to a change of location.
On 24 December 2025 at the permanent Ban Phak Kat checkpoint, Khlong Yai Subdistrict, Pong Nam Ron District, Chanthaburi Province, security officers, military, police, and administrative officials prepared the area adjacent to the permanent checkpoint for the General Border Committee (GBC) meeting. Thai officials are scheduled to arrive at the venue for an internal meeting at 14:00, followed by the joint Thai-Cambodian GBC secretary meeting at 16:00.
Mr. Thanat Kleebua, a local resident near the Phak Kat checkpoint, shared his views with the government regarding Cambodia's proposal to hold the meeting in a third country. He expressed pain and questioned why Cambodia is not standing up honorably, especially since bullets have landed here. He urged them to consider that their actions cause damage in Thailand and hoped they would witness the reality firsthand rather than using AI-generated images claiming Thailand fired first.
For this meeting, the Thai government has prepared to present three proposals: 1. A declaration of cease fire must be made first; 2. The cease fire must be genuine and continuous with observers present; and 3. Both sides must seriously cooperate in clearing anti-personnel landmines.
Recent reports indicate that preparations for the GBC meeting may involve relocating from the Ban Phak Kat checkpoint to a golf course hotel in Pong Nam Ron District, due to the original venue being unready. Final confirmation is still pending.
