The Meteorological Department warns southern Thailand to prepare for increased rainfall from 25 to 28 Dec 2025 and identifies provinces to monitor for "heavy to very heavy rain." It tags seven provinces for vigilance.
On 24 Dec 2025, Mr. Chaiyan Sitthiworanun, Director of the Central Weather Forecasting Division at the Meteorological Department, reported that southern Thailand will experience increased rain with heavy to very heavy showers from 25 to 29 Dec 2025.
He explained that the weather map shows a high-pressure system extending continuously from China, keeping mornings in Thailand cool. Meanwhile, a low-pressure area near Borneo is expected to move westward, passing over Malaysia around 25 to 28 Dec.
According to the Meteorological Department’s high-performance WRF-DA computer forecast, on 25 Dec the approaching low-pressure area near Malaysia will increase rainfall in southern Thailand, causing heavy showers in some locations.
On 26 Dec, the low-pressure area over Malaysia will bring increased rain to central and southern southern Thailand as well as Malaysia, with heavy to very heavy rain especially in the provinces of Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Songkhla, Pattani, Yala, and Narathiwat.
On 27 Dec, the low-pressure area will move toward the Strait of Malacca and then toward Indonesia, resulting in continued rain in southern Thailand but with reduced intensity of heavy rain, mainly affecting the same provinces from Surat Thani down to Narathiwat.
By 28 Dec, the low-pressure area will have moved far away, leading to reduced rainfall with only isolated heavy showers remaining in some areas.
Areas at risk for heavy to very heavy rain have been forecasted using the Meteorological Department’s high-performance computer systems.
The most significant impact is expected on 25 and 26 Dec, especially on 26 Dec, when heavy rain is forecast in many areas from Surat Thani down to Narathiwat, with some locations experiencing very heavy rainfall.
On 27 and 28 Dec, heavy rain will decrease, mostly falling in small to moderate amounts, with only some areas seeing heavy showers.
Residents in Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Songkhla, Pattani, Yala, and Narathiwat are advised to be cautious of dangers from heavy to very heavy rain that may occur during this period.
