Rescue Efforts Underway to Recover Body of Female Tourist Who Fell from Cliff in Tak Province

Authorities are trekking into the area to urgently recover the body of a 22-year-old female tourist who fell from a high cliff at Doi Jo Wale in Tak Province, resulting in her death.

At 17:00 on 25 Dec 2025 GMT+7, reporters from Mae Sot District, Tak Province, reported that emergency relief personnel from Tha Song Yang District received notification from local porters at a popular tourist site that a female tourist visiting Doi Jo Wale had fallen from a high cliff and died. The victim was later identified as Ms. Sarocha Wijit Panya, 22, from Mueang District, Surat Thani Province. She fell approximately 200 meters near the campsite on the natural tourist trail at Doi Jo Wale.

Porters said they were informed this morning by a male tourist that his girlfriend was missing. They joined a search with others in the group, eventually finding a phone, blanket, and sleeping bag on the lower mountainside. Nearby, they discovered the body of the young woman and immediately informed her boyfriend, who then alerted the authorities to investigate and provide assistance.

Most recently, Mr. Narong Priangkham, manager of the Phetkasem Foundation, stated they are awaiting helicopter confirmation to evacuate the woman’s body. However, the helicopter is currently assigned to other urgent operations. Therefore, officials have coordinated with the 35th Ranger Regiment, local administrative and emergency agencies, police from Tha Song Yang Station, rescue units, and national park officials, who began trekking into the area at 14:25.

Accessing the site is very challenging. Police investigator Lt. Col. Apiwat Thaworn is overseeing the case and waiting for rescue teams to retrieve the body for transfer to Tha Song Yang Hospital, where the cause of death will be further examined.
