People are gradually traveling back to their hometowns for New Year 2026, causing heavy traffic congestion on many routes since last night. Authorities recommend avoiding Highway 348 at Khao Chong Takhok due to clashes, while air travelers are advised to allow 2-3 hours for their journeys.
On 27 Dec 2025 GMT+7, reporters described the atmosphere of people returning home and traveling to other provinces during the New Year 2026 festival. Since last night, traffic on Route 304 from Kabin Buri to Nakhon Ratchasima has progressively thickened. Overall, traffic is dense with slowdowns at various traffic light intersections. Consequently, highway police from Prachinburi, police from Sri Maha Phot Police Station, and road maintenance officials from Prachinburi closed the outbound lane from Industrial Estate 304 heading towards Chachoengsao to direct vehicles to make a U-turn in front of the Khlong Rang branch of Siam Commercial Bank.
Meanwhile, continuous clashes have occurred near the Sa Kaeo border. Authorities have issued warnings for people traveling back home during the New Year festival to avoid Highway 348 (Khao Chong Takhok) from Ta Pra Ya, Sa Kaeo to Non Din Daeng, Buriram, as this is a high-risk area due to BM-21 rocket fire, especially in villages within Ta Pra Ya, Khok Sung, Aranyaprathet, and Khlong Hat districts.
Therefore, people who normally use Highway 348 (Khao Chong Takhok) from Ta Pra Ya, Sa Kaeo to Non Din Daeng, Buriram must use Route 304 instead. This has caused Route 304—from Sanam Chai Khet district, Chachoengsao province through Kabin Buri, Prachinburi province to Wang Nam Khiao, Nakhon Ratchasima province—to experience much heavier traffic volume than in previous years.
At 07:00 on Phahonyothin Road outbound at km 34 in Khlong Nueng subdistrict, Khlong Luang district, Pathum Thani province, which is the ramp down from Don Mueang Tollway, there is heavy traffic heading to northern and northeastern provinces, but vehicles are still moving. Police Lieutenant Colonel Singha Fuangkaew, traffic inspector at Khlong Luang Police Station, deployed officers in cooperation with Ayutthaya highway police to assist the public.
At Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang airports, passengers are advised to allow at least 2–3 hours before departure and to check their flight information in advance to prevent any errors. Peak passenger periods for both domestic and international flights are from 09:00 to 11:00 and 16:00 to 19:00.
From 05:00 to 07:00, domestic flights are especially busy, as these are the first flights of the day for all airlines.
