The EOD team was deployed to survey the Krasuntok Subdistrict along the Surin provincial border after a ceasefire was signed. They will monitor the area for 72 hours to check for safety before announcing when residents can return home to stay.
On 27 December 2025 GMT+7, in front of the Surin Provincial Police Station in Mueang District, Surin Province, Mr. Jamroen Wanphet, Surin Governor, along with Pol. Maj. Gen. Sukon Sriarun, Commander of Surin Provincial Police, and Pol. Col. Chainarong Boonduang, Deputy Commander of Surin Provincial Police, organized a lineup to deploy the Surin EOD team to survey the Krasuntok Subdistrict in the border area of Surin Province. This followed a press conference by Defence Minister Gen. Natthaphon Nakpanich announcing a ceasefire between Thailand and Cambodia starting at 12:00 today, with both sides maintaining current troop positions without movement, reinforcements, or provocations, and observing a 72-hour monitoring period.
There are two teams deployed: the Surin Provincial Police EOD team, the Border Patrol Police team, and the Suranaree forces will first survey Kab Choeng and Phanom Dong Rak districts.
Mr. Jamroen Wanphet, Surin Governor, said that during this 72-hour observation period, the EOD team, local administration teams, and community defense volunteers will jointly conduct preliminary surveys for explosive devices and hazards to the public. They will focus first on residential areas. Once the government confirms a 100% ceasefire, the approximately 100,000 households who evacuated, especially in safe zones, can return more quickly.
Meanwhile, Pol. Maj. Gen. Sukon Sriarun, Commander of Surin Provincial Police, stated that during the 72-hour ceasefire period, the initial survey will focus on Krasuntok Subdistrict in Kab Choeng District. Tactically, making this area safe is a priority. The EOD bomb disposal team will inspect ordnance fired from Cambodia to determine if explosions were complete.
If any explosives did not detonate properly, the EOD team will collect and destroy them to ensure safety for residents returning home. Authorities urge residents to refrain from entering the area if they hear operational sounds and to await official announcements. It remains uncertain if Cambodia will fully observe the ceasefire during these 72 hours, but the teams will do their best to make the area as safe as possible for residents' return.
Today, following the ceasefire signing at 12:00, Surin Province reported no clashes. However, the situation continues to be closely monitored.
