Myanmar Election Disrupted by Unknown Forces Using Suicide Drones to Attack Myawaddy

Myanmar's election faced disruptions as unknown forces used suicide drones to attack Myawaddy, causing severe damage to homes, vehicles, political party offices, and polling stations.

At 12:40 p.m. on 28 Dec 2025, reporters reported that after the night of 27 Dec, unknown forces used suicide drones—also called kamikaze drones—to bomb the Myanmar military's political party office in Village No. 4, Myawaddy Township, Kayin State, Myanmar, opposite Rim Moei village, Tha Sai Luat subdistrict, Mae Sot district, Tak province. The second drone struck a polling station near a school in Village No. 4, Myawaddy city, and the third hit a polling station near the Myawaddy Complex casino, opposite Tha At village, Tha Sai Luat subdistrict. No group has claimed responsibility for the suicide drone explosions.

Meanwhile, Myanmar authorities believe the attack was carried out by the Karen National Union (KNU) forces aiming to cause unrest during the general election on 28 Dec 2025.

The explosions caused damage to residential houses, the Myanmar military's Green Party office, polling stations, and other property. Sources reported over 10 people were injured and one person died.

At the time of the incident, Myanmar soldiers and BGF forces cautiously inspected the area, fearing further drone bomb attacks on personnel. Residents of Myawaddy fled to safe locations and took shelter in bomb shelters within their homes.

Meanwhile, Mae Sot Hospital reported it had not received any injured persons crossing into Thailand for treatment. The election on the Myanmar side in Myawaddy Township was quiet and lacked activity.
