The Royal Thai Air Force is closely monitoring the Belarus-Phnom Penh flight, assuring that if it carries supplies and is used against Thailand, there will be countermeasures and protective actions in place. They emphasized that the public should not be worried. Meanwhile, the deputy army spokesperson revealed that Thailand is strictly observing the ceasefire agreement but remains cautious in case of any violations.
At 2:30 p.m. on 28 December 2025 GMT+7, at the Joint Border Situation Press Center for the Thailand-Cambodia border on Channel 5, Air Chief Marshal Praphas Sonjaidee, director of the Joint Border Situation Press Center, spoke about the overall situation after both sides reached an agreement at the General Border Committee (GBC) meeting yesterday (27 Dec 2025). He said they will implement the ceasefire measures and resume joint activities as outlined in the signed meeting statement, shifting from conflict and provocations toward diplomatic platforms and international mechanisms to foster good relations. The implementation will include monitoring mechanisms and verification, especially regarding any use of weapons after the ceasefire. Evidence will be collected and reported to international agencies. He confirmed that if weapons are used to harm Thai citizens, Thailand retains full rights to respond and defend itself.
Air Chief Marshal Praphas addressed concerns about Cambodia potentially reinforcing weapons following the broadcast of images showing a transport plane from Belarus flying to Phnom Penh after the ceasefire statement was signed. He said regarding the news and various analyses, the Air Force knows the flight’s origin, destination, route, cargo capacity, range, and what should be onboard. They continue intelligence operations and assure that if any reinforcement or other activities occur, and if they are used, they have protective measures to safeguard the public. Sometimes such news raises questions, and they welcome inquiries via private messages, ready to provide more detailed facts.
He reaffirmed there is no threat, suggesting that rumors or criticism might cause unnecessary worry. Currently, the focus is on creating a supportive atmosphere for helping affected citizens and humanitarian aid, as people from both countries have been impacted. They will proceed according to the statement to achieve sustainable peace.
Flight Lieutenant Natnaya Chanpleng, assistant spokesperson for the Royal Thai Air Force, stated that the IL62M cargo plane traveling to Phnom Penh is being closely tracked by the Air Force. Additionally, unusual activities are continuously monitored. He expressed confidence to the public that the Air Force remains prepared around the clock and ready to respond should any incidents occur.
Lieutenant Colonel Ritcha Suksuwanont, deputy spokesperson for the Royal Thai Army, stated that the army is closely monitoring the situation along the Thailand-Cambodia border. Since noon yesterday, Thai forces have strictly complied with the ceasefire agreement without complacency, continuously overseeing all points along the border. Currently, there have been no reports of ceasefire violations. Regarding social media speculation about clause 4 of the joint statement allowing citizens from both sides to return home, and Cambodian residents formerly living in Ban Nong Jan wanting to return to Thai-controlled areas, this is not permitted. The statement clearly specifies that citizens may only return to their current residing areas within their own countries, linking to clause 2 which defines current areas as those where troops are stationed. Therefore, areas controlled by Thailand are considered Thai territory, and Cambodians cannot return to those areas.
