
The Joint Border Situation Center of Thailand and Cambodia clarified the case of releasing 18 Cambodian soldiers at Ban Phak Kat checkpoint, Chanthaburi Province. This followed the GBC agreement and reflects Thailand's stance on peaceful principles alongside national defense. It affirmed no impact on sovereignty or security, with the Thai military maintaining 24-hour vigilance and monitoring.
Regarding the case, at 08:30, Thai officials brought 18 Cambodian soldiers to the permanent Ban Phak Kat checkpoint, Khlong Yai Subdistrict, Pong Nam Ron District, Chanthaburi, before handing them over to Cambodian officials. Accompanying them was Khun Ying Ban Serei Mom, Governor of Pailin Province, Cambodia, with a large crowd gathered at the border to receive them.
Concerning this matter, the Joint Border Situation Center of Thailand and Cambodia would like to inform the public and media that today (31 December 2025), the Thai side returned 18 Cambodian soldiers under Thai custody back to Cambodia at the permanent Ban Phak Kat border crossing, Village No. 4, Khlong Yai Subdistrict, Pong Nam Ron District, Chanthaburi Province. Observers from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), ASEAN Observer Team (AOT), and representatives from the 2nd Army Region were present. Cambodian representatives receiving the soldiers included the Commander of Military Region 5 and the Governor of Pailin Province.
This operation was in accordance with the Joint Statement signed at the GBC meeting and the intention of the Joint Declaration between Thailand and Cambodia, including clearly defined agreements under international law and humanitarian principles, adhering to global standards and the responsibilities of all parties.
The Thai side confirms that this operation does not affect sovereignty, security, or national dignity. The Thai military continues to maintain forces and closely monitor the situation 24 hours a day to protect the public and ensure border area security.
Furthermore, the Thai side has documented, verified, and tracked relevant facts under international mechanisms and procedures to ensure accuracy, transparency, and accountability from all parties continuously.
