The Meteorological Department reports that today, northern Thailand will have cold to very cold weather, while Bangkok remains cool in the morning. Residents in these areas are advised to take care of their health due to the conditions.
On 1 Jan 2026, the Meteorological Department issued a 24-hour weather forecast stating that upper Thailand will experience light fog in the morning, with thick fog in some areas of the North and Central regions. The North and Northeast will continue to experience cold to very cold weather.
Meanwhile, the Central region, including Bangkok and its vicinity, the East, and the upper South will have cool mornings due to a northwesterly wind at upper levels covering upper Thailand and the upper South. A high-pressure area or cold air mass covers the North and Northeast. People in these areas are advised to protect their health from the cold weather, watch out for fire hazards due to dry conditions, and exercise caution when traveling through foggy areas.
The northeast monsoon affecting the Gulf of Thailand and the South is weak, resulting in little rain in the lower Southern region at this time. Residents in the South should be cautious of possible thunderstorms in some areas. In the lower Gulf of Thailand, waves reach 1-2 meters high, with waves about 2 meters high in areas experiencing thunderstorms. Fishermen in the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea are advised to navigate carefully and avoid areas with thunderstorms.
From 2 to 6 Jan 2026, upper Thailand will experience a temperature drop accompanied by strong winds. The North and Northeast will have cold to very cold weather, while the Central region, including Bangkok and its vicinity, the East, and the upper South will have cool mornings. This is due to a new, moderate to fairly strong high-pressure system or cold air mass from China extending over upper Thailand and the South China Sea.
Currently, particulate matter and smoke accumulation in upper Thailand are moderate to quite high because of poor air ventilation conditions.
