
The Probation Department revealed that drunk driving cases remain high on New Year's Eve, with a two-day cumulative total of 1,366 cases. It also disclosed that the top three provinces with the highest drunk driving cases are led by Nonthaburi with 174 cases, followed by Bangkok with 131 cases.
On 1 Jan 2026 GMT+7, Police Lieutenant Colonel Piya Raksakul, Director-General of the Probation Department, disclosed statistics on cases entering the probation system during the New Year festival on 31 Dec 2025 GMT+7, the second day of strict enforcement measures. There were a total of 1,150 cases entering the system, comprising 1,093 drunk driving cases, or 95.04%, 56 cases of driving under the influence of drugs, or 4.87%, and 1 reckless driving case, or 0.09%.
Meanwhile, the total accumulated cases over the two days from 30-31 Dec 2025 GMT+7 amounted to 1,473 cases, broken down as follows: 1,366 cases of driving under the influence of alcohol. This represents 92.74%. Additionally, there were 4 cases of careless driving (0.27%), 102 cases of drug-influenced driving (6.92%), and 1 reckless driving case (0.07%).
Compared to the same period last year, which recorded 1,255 drunk driving cases, this year saw 1,093 cases, a decrease of 162 cases.
The top three provinces with the highest number of drunk driving cases are: 1. Nonthaburi with 174 cases, 2. Bangkok with 131 cases, and 3. Samut Prakan with 127 cases.
Currently, probation offices nationwide continue to operate jointly with probation volunteers, network partners, the public, and probationers to support operations at community checkpoints and search points, totaling 92 locations with 915 participants. Moreover, coordination with local police stations has involved probationers convicted under the Land Traffic Act to assist in monitoring CCTV footage to examine driving behavior on main and secondary roads to foster awareness, instill discipline, and reduce road accidents during this important festival.
“On the occasion of the New Year, I would like to express my concern to the people nationwide, urging everyone to celebrate with happiness and safety, to be mindful and disciplined in road use, strictly adhere to traffic laws, and respect the rights of fellow road users. Especially, avoid risky behaviors: do not drink and drive, and do not drive after drinking, so that the New Year 2026 festival will be a time of happiness and safety for all,” Police Lieutenant Colonel Piya concluded.
