Associate Professor from Prestigious University Dies in Head-On Collision in Roi Et Province

In Roi Et, a head-on collision between SUVs occurred on Patthamanon Road, the Roi Et-Kalasin route, resulting in two deaths, one of whom was an associate professor in the Mathematics Department at Khon Kaen University. Additionally, four people were seriously injured. The Janghan Police Station is currently investigating the true cause.



At 16:35 on 3 January 2026, Police Lieutenant Theephon Kuakoon, deputy investigator of Janghan Police Station, received a report of a head-on collision between SUVs on Patthamanon Road, Roi Et-Kalasin route, near the curve at Ban Saeng Laem, Saen Chat Subdistrict, Janghan District, Roi Et Province. Several victims were trapped inside the vehicles. He quickly responded to the scene along with emergency rescue teams from Dong Singh Subdistrict Administrative Organization, Metta Tham Janghan Rescue, Janghan Hospital rescue unit, Roi Et Highway Rescue, and Asok Rongkham Rescue.

The accident site was at a curve on a four-lane road without a median. A white Toyota Fortuner SUV, license plate GT 5110 Roi Et, had collision damage to the left front, with the driver's side crushed. The driver, identified as Mr. Thanat Kromrin, approximately 42 years old, received emergency first aid and was transported to Janghan Hospital but later died from his injuries.




Nearby, a white Mitsubishi Pajero SUV, license plate GK 6590 Kalasin, showed collision damage to the left front, severely damaging the passenger cabin. Inside were four injured men and one woman trapped next to the driver. The woman, aged 51, was unconscious with no pulse. Rescue volunteers promptly used hydraulic cutters to free the victims, administered CPR and used an AED to stimulate her heartbeat before rushing her to Roi Et Hospital. The deceased was later identified as Associate Professor Dr. Narakorn Kanasri, aged 51, a lecturer in the Mathematics Department at Khon Kaen University.




A witness, Ms. Sureeporn Kaewkhonkaen, a medical emergency officer from Selaphum Hospital and a good Samaritan, recounted that upon arriving at the scene, she saw both vehicles had collided with multiple injured people. Since she works in emergency medical services, she turned back to assist the injured victims promptly to facilitate their transfer to the hospital.

Initially, the duty investigator inspected the accident site to record photographic evidence and log an official report. Authorities will interview witnesses and passengers involved to determine the true cause of the accident and proceed with legal actions.





Reports indicate that earlier that evening, Associate Professor Dr. Narakorn Kanasri was traveling with his family back to work in Khon Kaen Province when the fatal accident occurred.
