2nd Army Region Launches Operation to Defend Sam Tae: Behind the Surrender of 18 Cambodian Prisoners of War

The 2nd Army Region released footage of Operation Defend Sam Tae, the "Iron Shield," aimed at preventing enemy armored vehicles and tanks from encircling a key frontline. It revealed that 18 Cambodian prisoners of war surrendered their weapons and gave up peacefully. This victory was credited to the "Knights of the Battlefield," the 614th Cavalry Battalion Task Force.

Regarding the Thai-Cambodian border situation on 4 Jan 2026 GMT+7, the 2nd Army Region's Facebook page released footage of Operation Defend Sam Tae, stating the following.

The Sam Tae battlefield in Kantharalak District, Sisaket Province, is a place of honor on the left flank of the Kantharalak battle zone. Fierce and decisive clashes occurred here between Thai and Cambodian armored units amid continuous direct fire and supporting fire pressure every second.

The mission at Sam Tae was the "Iron Shield," preventing the enemy from using armored vehicles and tanks to encircle key frontlines in the Phu Phee, Sattasom, and Phra Wiharn areas. The security of the left flank was a condition for overall victory, and Sam Tae stood firm in fulfilling that role with full honor.

This victory was the work of the "Knights of the Battlefield," the 614th Cavalry Battalion Task Force, who upheld discipline, courage, and teamwork. Despite the intense war conditions, the unit maintained the area, halted the encirclement, and steadfastly protected their comrades.

Sam Tae is more than a place name; it symbolizes the sacrifice and pride of Thai soldiers. This honor, inscribed with the warrior's heart, will be remembered forever as the legacy of the 614th Cavalry Battalion Task Force.
