Return to Bangkok on the Asia Route: Heavy Traffic Through Ayutthaya, Severe Congestion at Bang Pa-in

Traffic on the Asia route heading into Bangkok through Ayutthaya is densely packed in every lane. Heavy traffic jams accumulate around Bang Pa-in district, with a tailback stretching 5 kilometers. Vehicles move slowly with intermittent stops. Traffic volume is expected to remain heavy throughout the night until morning.

On the evening of 4 January 2026, reporters observed traffic conditions on the Asia route heading into Bangkok through Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province. People returning from their hometowns and northern provinces during the New Year festival were heading toward Bangkok and the metropolitan area. Traffic volume increased steadily from evening into night, filling every traffic lane.

Before reaching the Bang Pa-in interchange, from kilometer marker 1 in Bang Pa-in district, Ayutthaya Province, traffic was densely packed in all lanes. Cars were turning into and out of gas stations, vehicles were merging left onto Phahonyothin Road to access the motorway, and some were slowing down to enter the Bang Pa-in interchange to head toward Highway 9 (Bang Pa-in–Bang Bua Thong) or exit onto Phahonyothin Road toward Bangkok.

This caused slow vehicle movement with intermittent stops extending about 5 kilometers. It is expected that traffic volume entering Bangkok and the metropolitan area will remain heavy throughout the night until morning, as this is the last holiday for many agencies and companies before work resumes.
