6-10 Jan 2026: New Cold Air Mass Covers Thailand, Increased Rain in the South

The Meteorological Department forecasts temperatures by region for 6-10 Jan 2026. Thailand is preparing for a new cold air mass coming from China. The southern region will have increased rainfall. Health precautions are advised to the public due to the weather changes.

On 5 Jan 2026, the Meteorological Department reported that from 4 to 5 Jan 2026, upper Thailand will experience a temperature drop with strong winds. The northern and northeastern regions will be cold to very cold. The central region, including Bangkok and its vicinity, the eastern region, and the upper south will have cool mornings due to a high-pressure area or cold air mass spreading from China covering upper Thailand and the South China Sea.

The lower southern region has little rain because the moderate northeast monsoon covers the Gulf of Thailand, the south, and the Andaman Sea. Waves and winds in the Gulf of Thailand and Andaman Sea are moderate. In the lower Gulf, waves reach about 2 meters high, while the upper Gulf and offshore Andaman Sea have waves 1–2 meters high. Areas with thunderstorms have waves over 2 meters.

From 6 to 10 Jan 2026, upper Thailand will continue to experience cold to very cold weather with decreasing temperatures and strong winds. This is due to another relatively strong high-pressure or cold air mass from China reinforcing coverage over upper Thailand and the South China Sea.

The southern region will have increased rain with some heavy rainfall in the lower southern area. The moderate northeast monsoon covering the Gulf of Thailand, the south, and the Andaman Sea will strengthen. Winds and waves in the Gulf of Thailand and Andaman Sea will become stronger, with waves 2–3 meters high in the lower Gulf, and over 3 meters in areas with thunderstorms. The upper Gulf will have waves around 2 meters high, with over 2 meters in areas with thunderstorms.

Precautions: People in upper Thailand and the upper south should take care of their health due to the continued cold weather and be cautious of fire hazards because of dry conditions and strong winds. Mariners in the Gulf of Thailand and Andaman Sea should navigate carefully and avoid areas with thunderstorms throughout this period. Small boats in the lower Gulf of Thailand are advised to stay ashore from 6 to 9 Jan 2026.
