A French tourist was taking a selfie on the rocks at the 5th tier of Namuang Waterfall in Surat Thani when he slipped and fell. The woman grabbed a branch and survived, but her boyfriend was swept down by the water and died near the 4th tier of the waterfall.
On 5 Jan 2026 GMT+7, Police Lieutenant Chayut Tulachotikun, an investigator at Koh Samui Police Station, received a report from patrol officers at a nearby checkpoint about a French tourist named Alexis Vergos, 22, who slipped and fell from the 5th tier of Namuang Waterfall 2 in Koh Samui district, Surat Thani. The deceased's body was caught in a pool at the 4th tier of the waterfall. Administrative officials, along with police officers and Koh Samui rescue volunteers, planned a recovery operation to bring the body down.
Initially, authorities used ropes to lift the body from the pool near the cliff, then placed it on a stretcher to carry it down. The operation took about 2 hours. A duty doctor at Koh Samui Hospital conducted a preliminary examination and found the man had sustained a severe head injury with a large wound.
Interpreter Pimprapa Sakulpram said that after interviewing the deceased's girlfriend, Ms. Roman, it was learned that the couple came to visit Namuang Waterfall 2 together. They climbed to the 5th tier and went out to take selfies, but both slipped and fell. She managed to grab a branch and survive, while her boyfriend was swept off the cliff by the water. She then hurried down to inform a nearby restaurant operator, who helped contact authorities for assistance.
