7 January 2026Meteorological DepartmentThe 24-hour weather forecast (7 January 2026) states that upper Thailand will experience colder weather with strong winds and temperatures dropping by another 1 to 3 degrees Celsius. The northern, northeastern, and upper central regions will be cool to cold, while the lower central region, including Bangkok and its vicinity, the eastern region, and upper southern region will be cool in the morning. This is due to a fairly strong high-pressure system or cold air mass from China covering upper Thailand. The public is advised to take care of their health due to the colder weather and to be cautious of fire hazards caused by dry conditions and strong winds.
In the lower southern region, heavy rain is expected in some areas. Residents there should be cautious of dangers from heavy and accumulated rainfall, as a fairly strong northeast monsoon is covering the Gulf of Thailand and the southern region. The waves in the Gulf of Thailand are quite strong, with heights of 2 to 3 meters, and over 3 meters in areas experiencing thunderstorms. Off the Andaman coast, waves reach about 2 meters, with over 2 meters where thunderstorms occur. Mariners in these areas should navigate carefully, and small boats in the Gulf of Thailand should refrain from going out to sea. Residents along the eastern coast of the southern region should also be cautious of waves hitting the shore.
Currently, dust particles and haze in upper Thailand are at low to moderate levels and tend to decrease, due to stronger prevailing winds.
7-day forecast: From 7 to 10 January 2026, upper Thailand will experience colder weather with strong winds, with temperatures dropping 5 to 7 degrees Celsius in the northeastern region.
Meanwhile, in the northern and central regions, including Bangkok and its vicinity, the eastern region, and upper southern region, temperatures will fall by 2 to 5 degrees Celsius due to another fairly strong high-pressure system or cold air mass from China spreading over upper Thailand and the South China Sea.
From 11 to 13 January 2026, temperatures in upper Thailand will begin to rise with morning fog and some areas of dense fog, but it will remain cool to cold. This is because the fairly strong high-pressure system or cold air mass covering upper Thailand and the South China Sea will weaken.
In the southern region from 7 to 9 January 2026, rainfall will increase with heavy rain in some areas of the lower south, due to a moderate northeast monsoon covering the Gulf of Thailand, southern region, and the Andaman Sea intensifying. Waves and winds in the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea will strengthen, with wave heights of 2 to 3 meters in the Gulf and over 3 meters where thunderstorms occur. The Andaman Sea will have waves 1 to 2 meters high, increasing to over 2 meters where thunderstorms occur.
From 10 to 13 January 2026, rainfall in the southern region will decrease but still have isolated thunderstorms mostly in the lower south. This is because the fairly strong northeast monsoon covering the lower Gulf of Thailand and lower southern region will weaken. Waves and winds in the Gulf of Thailand and Andaman Sea will also weaken, with wave heights about 2 meters in the Gulf and over 2 meters where thunderstorms occur. The Andaman Sea will have waves about 1 meter high, and 1 to 2 meters offshore, increasing to over 2 meters where thunderstorms occur.
Precautions: Residents in upper Thailand and the upper southern region are advised to take care of their health due to the colder weather and to be cautious of fire hazards caused by dry conditions and strong winds.
Mariners in the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea should navigate carefully and avoid sailing in areas with thunderstorms. Residents along the eastern coast of the southern region should beware of waves hitting the shore. Small boats in the Gulf of Thailand are advised to stay ashore throughout this period.
From 11 to 12 January 2026, residents in upper Thailand should be cautious when traveling through areas with fog.
Earthquake situation (6–7 January 2026): Earthquakes measuring 3.2, 3.0, 2.6, and 3.7 on the Richter scale were detected with epicenters in Myanmar, causing no impact on Thailand.
