A tense moment unfolded when a man driving a pickup truck crashed into a gas station, injuring one employee. Police filed charges after he admitted the act was motivated by a desire to die. The vehicle used had been stolen from a relative, and he agreed to take full responsibility for the incident.
Reporters learned that at 13:46 on 6 January 2026, Lieutenant Sumit Akkaranet, an investigator at Muang Prachinburi Police Station, received a report from Somchai Ketsri, 52, the gas station owner, that a black Nissan Navara pickup truck with Prachinburi license plates had crashed into the Thai Petroleum gas station in Village 1, Dong Khee Lek Subdistrict, Muang District, Prachinburi Province. The gas station's CCTV captured the incident, prompting investigators to visit the scene to proceed with legal action.
Investigators arrived at the scene and found the gasoline pump damaged by the collision. The vehicle involved was a black Nissan Navara pickup truck from Prachinburi, driven by Thanakorn Chimchom, 35, who remained at the scene. He admitted to stealing the vehicle from a relative in Nadee District and said he intended to drive to Nakhon Nayok Province before deliberately crashing the truck into the gas station because he wanted to die. The crash also injured Ornthai Thidarat, 36, who was standing nearby.
Police charged the driver with reckless driving causing bodily injury, imposing a fine of 500 baht during the investigation. The perpetrator agreed to compensate the gas station owner for damages. Regarding the theft case in Nadee District, Police Captain Supol Chaiudom, chief of investigation at Nadee Police Station, dispatched officers to take the suspect and vehicle for legal proceedings.
Somchai Ketsri, the gas station owner, said the perpetrator promised to take responsibility and be truthful. The damage was estimated at over 100,000 baht. The man admitted to intentionally crashing the vehicle while intoxicated, then walked out saying he wanted to die and drank liquor from the car as if indifferent. The estimated repair cost for the damaged pump is about 230,000 baht, while a new pump costs around 260,000 baht. The station has only been operating for one year. Somchai expressed a wish for such people to be removed from the community due to the harm they cause others.
