A speedboat collided with a local fishing boat near Koh Khiao, located between Phuket province and Phi Phi Island in Krabi province, injuring more than 10 tourists, with one critically injured.
At 09:10 on 11 Jan 2026, officials from the Marine National Interests Protection Center Region 3 (MNIPC Region 3) received reports of a speedboat from a company colliding with a local fishing boat near Koh Khiao, situated between Phuket province and Phi Phi Island in Krabi province. Upon notification, the Phuket Tourist Assistance Center immediately dispatched vessels to provide aid.
They found 12 tourists injured, with one in critical condition. The injured were promptly taken to Phi Phi Hospital, the closest facility to the accident site, while some were transported back to Phuket.
The vessel involved was a tour boat carrying tourists from Phuket heading to Phi Phi Island. Onboard were 50 tourists, one Thai guide, one foreign guide, and three crew members. The cause of the accident is currently under investigation.
