A family hired a taxi to return home to Surin Province to vote in the local administrative election. On the way back, the taxi crashed into the rear of a 10-wheel truck on Pathum Thani 2 Bridge, causing the driver and passengers to die, totaling three deaths and one injury.
At 03:00 on 12 Jan 2026 GMT+7, Police Lieutenant Nithirut Rojnrattham, Deputy Investigation Officer at Pak Khlong Rangsit Police Station, received a report of a taxi rear-ending a 10-wheel truck on Pathum Thani 2 Bridge on Road 345 (heading toward Bang Bua Thong), Moo 5, Ban Mai Subdistrict, Mueang District, Pathum Thani Province. Multiple people were injured and killed. Upon receiving the report, he and patrol officers, traffic police, and volunteers from Poh Teck Tung Foundation, along with forensic doctors from the Ministry of Justice, rushed to the scene.
Upon arrival at the middle of Pathum Thani 2 Bridge, they found an orange MG taxi meter car crashed into the rear of a white Isuzu 10-wheel truck registered in Sa Kaeo. Inside the taxi, three people were found dead and one injured with a broken left leg and unconscious. Rescue workers urgently took the injured to Pathum Thani Hospital. The three deceased were removed from the vehicle for autopsy by doctors and police. They were identified as Mr. Sinthep, 57, the driver; Ms. Banyen Muentan, 45; and Ms. Kamwan Muentan, 50. The injured was Ms. Panatda, 20. All were relatives. The truck driver, Mr. Arun, 55, from Sa Kaeo Province, was at the scene.
Mr. Arun Mordee, the 10-wheel truck driver, stated that before the accident, he was driving from Sa Kaeo Province carrying tapioca starch to deliver to a customer at Soi Wat Lat Pla Duk in Nonthaburi Province. When he reached the middle of the bridge, driving in the center lane, he suddenly heard a loud noise from the rear causing the truck to shake. He stopped the truck and found that a taxi had collided with the back, resulting in fatalities and injuries. Subsequently, a good Samaritan called the police and rescue workers.
Police initially documented the scene with photographs before handing the bodies to the Poh Teck Tung Foundation to transfer to the Ministry of Justice’s Institute of Forensic Science for detailed autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. The truck driver was taken for further questioning. Preliminary telephone contact with the victims' relatives confirmed that all deceased were family members who had hired a taxi, known to them, to return to Surin Province to vote in the local administrative election. The accident occurred on the return trip on the bridge, and it is suspected that the taxi driver may have fallen asleep. Further investigation will continue.
